Chapter 9: The Final Move

I arrived at my lawyer’s office expecting the worst.

After everything, I thought nothing could surprise me anymore.

I was wrong.

The document sat on the desk.

My lawyer pointed.

“Look at the recipient.””

I did.

Then I stopped.

Because the name wasn’t Victoria.

It wasn’t Rachel.

It wasn’t Emily.

It was mine.

My own name.

“What?””

My lawyer smiled slightly.

“Read carefully.””

I looked closer.

The transfer was not taking the house away.

It was returning ownership.

I didn’t understand.

Then my father walked into the room.

“You finally found it.””

I looked at him.

“You knew?””

He nodded.

“I suspected.””

He explained everything.

Months before my birthday, he had noticed Daniel acting differently.

So Dad quietly hired investigators.

When he discovered the financial problems, he prepared.

But he didn’t want to destroy my marriage without proof.

“I wanted you to see the truth yourself.””

I looked at him.

“That’s why you came that night.””

He nodded.

“The cake was never revenge.””

I smiled sadly.

“It felt like revenge.””

He laughed softly.

“No.””

He looked at me.

“It was a reminder.””

“Of what?””

“That people who humiliate you should never forget you have people who love you.””

For the first time in months, I cried.

Not from pain.

From relief.

The investigation revealed the final truth.

Daniel had planned to transfer the house temporarily.

He thought he could hide assets.

But Victoria had manipulated him.

She had secretly changed documents.

She planned to take control herself.

Daniel was not the mastermind.

He was just another person she controlled.

The final court decision came months later.

Daniel faced the consequences.

Victoria lost everything she tried to gain.

Rachel apologized.

I never forgave her completely.

Some wounds heal differently.

Some people leave scars.

But I stopped carrying the weight of what they did.

One year later, I stood in front of a mirror.

Not for a birthday party.

Not for anyone else.

For myself.

I wore the same blue dress style I had worn that terrible night.

But this time, I smiled.

Because the woman looking back at me was different.

She was stronger.

She knew her worth.

Then my phone rang.

It was my father.

“Happy birthday, sweetheart.””

I smiled.

“Thank you.””

“Any plans?””

I looked around my new apartment.

My new life.

“Yes.””

“What?””

I smiled.

“Celebrating.””

May you like

And this time…

I knew nobody could take that away.
