Chapter 8: The Sister Who Knew Too Much

Amelia Donovan looked nothing like Victor expected.

She wasn’t a villain.

She wasn’t dangerous.

She looked exhausted.

Like someone who had spent years running from a nightmare.

Victor stood across from her.

“You’re alive.””

Amelia nodded.

“Yes.””

“Your sister said you died.””

Pain crossed Amelia’s face.

“Serena lies when the truth hurts her.””

Victor’s voice was cold.

“Why were you hiding?””

Amelia looked toward the stairs.

Toward Ethan’s room.

“Because I was protecting him.””

Victor stepped forward.

“You expect me to believe that?””

“No.””

Her answer surprised him.

“I expect you to investigate.””

Amelia placed a folder on the table.

Inside were medical records.

Photographs.

Letters.

Everything.

“After Elena died, I discovered someone was trying to take Ethan.””

Victor looked at the documents.

“Who?””

Amelia looked at him.

“Marcus.””

Victor’s anger returned.

“But Serena said you were responsible.””

Amelia’s eyes filled with sadness.

“Serena believed that.””

“Why?””

“Because she never knew the whole story.””

Amelia sat down.

“When I worked for your family, I discovered Marcus was using Serena.””

Victor frowned.

“What?””

“He manipulated her anger.””

“To do what?””

“To get close to you.””

The pieces started connecting.

Serena wasn’t the beginning.

She was a weapon.

“She thought she was getting revenge,” Amelia said.

“But?””

“But she was helping Marcus destroy the Blackwood family.””

Victor looked at Ethan’s photo.

“Why?””

“Because Ethan is the only person standing between Marcus and control of the company.””

Victor laughed bitterly.

“All of this.””

He looked around.

“All of this because of an inheritance?””

Amelia shook her head.

“No.””

Victor looked at her.

“Then why?””

Amelia whispered:

“Because Marcus knew Ethan wasn’t just an heir.””

Victor waited.

“He was proof.””

“Proof of what?””

Amelia looked at him.

“That your father chose Elena’s family over his own.””

Victor frowned.

“What does that mean?””

“Your father discovered Marcus had been stealing from the company.””

Victor froze.

“He planned to expose him.””

“And Ethan?””

“Was the reason he changed the inheritance.””

Victor understood.

Ethan represented the future.

A future Marcus couldn’t control.

That night, Victor gathered everyone.

Lily.

Marco.

Amelia.

The people who had been connected to the truth.

“We need Marcus here,” Victor said.

Amelia looked worried.

“He won’t come.””

“He will.””

“Why?””

Victor looked at the documents.

“Because he thinks he already won.””

The trap was simple.

A fake announcement.

A public statement claiming Victor was stepping away from the company.

Claiming Ethan’s inheritance was frozen.

Claiming Marcus had control.

Within twelve hours, Marcus called.

Victor answered.

“Uncle.””

Marcus laughed.

“So you finally understand.””

Victor stayed silent.

“You always were too emotional.””

Victor’s eyes hardened.

“You hurt my family.””

“No.””

Marcus corrected him.

“I saved the family.””

Victor looked at Amelia.

“Come home.””

A pause.

Then Marcus said:

“I never left.””

The call ended.

Marco looked at Victor.

“He’s already here.””

Victor turned.

“What?””

Marco pointed toward the security screen.

A man stood outside the mansion gates.

Watching.

May you like

Waiting.

Marcus Blackwood had returned.
