Chapter 10: The Truth Ethan Deserved

Dr. Adrian Vale was found three days later.

Not hiding.

Waiting.

Because unlike Marcus and Serena, he didn’t believe he had done anything wrong.

That made him more dangerous.

Victor met him in a private interview room.

The doctor looked older.

Tired.

But calm.

“You know why I’m here.””

Vale nodded.

“Yes.””

“Tell me the truth.””

Vale looked down.

“About Ethan?””

“Yes.””

The doctor sighed.

“Your son is your son.””

Victor watched him carefully.

“Then why change the records?””

Vale closed his eyes.

“Because someone was trying to erase him.””

The answer shocked Victor.

“Marcus?””

“Yes.””

“Then why hide it?””

“Because exposing Marcus would have put Ethan in more danger.””

Victor clenched his jaw.

“You let me believe nothing happened.””

“I let you believe he was safe.””

“That was not your choice.””

Vale nodded.

“You’re right.””

For the first time, he looked ashamed.

“After Elena died, she made me promise.””

Victor froze.

“Elena?””

“She knew she didn’t have much time.””

The doctor handed him a final letter.

Victor recognized the handwriting.

Again.

He opened it.

*Victor,*

*If you are reading this, Ethan is old enough to know the truth.*

*I never wanted to hide anything from you.*

*I wanted to protect our son.*

Tears blurred Victor’s vision.

*You are the strongest man I know. But strength can become anger. And anger can become dangerous.*

*I needed you to love Ethan before you learned everyone who wanted to take him away.*

Victor lowered the letter.

For years, he thought secrets had been stolen from him.

Now he realized some secrets had been carried for him.

Not because people didn’t trust him.

Because they loved him.

Months later, the Blackwood mansion changed.

The cameras were replaced.

The locked doors were removed.

The staff no longer lived in fear.

Lily returned.

Not as a nanny.

As Ethan’s official guardian and part of the family.

One evening, Victor found her sitting with Ethan in the garden.

“You’re smiling.””

Lily looked up.

“So are you.””

Victor glanced at Ethan.

The little boy was laughing.

A sound that once seemed impossible.

“I spent years building an empire.””

Lily smiled.

“And?””

Victor looked at his son.

“I finally learned what I was supposed to protect.””

Years later, people would still talk about the Blackwood scandal.

The billionaire.

The cruel fiancée.

The hidden recordings.

The family betrayal.

But the truth was simpler.

A mansion built on secrets nearly destroyed a family.

And the smallest person inside it saved everyone.

Because Ethan Blackwood was never a weapon.

Never a possession.

Never a prize.

He was a child who deserved love.

And finally…

He had it.
